The upcoming closure of the U.S. 250 bridge in Shadwell will cost Albemarle County schools $9,000 in additional transportation costs, re-route civilian traffic onto Interstate 64 and mean complications for county fire and rescue services.
The bridge will close Tuesday for an estimated 10 weeks as crews work to replace the bridge’s deck and superstructure.
The $1.8 million project will make the bridge, which was originally built in 1939, passable to all traffic.
