Library votes against out-of-area user fees

The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library board voted Monday to recommend that its new regional agreement not include out-of-area user fees.

After a short discussion at the end of their regular meeting, JMRL board members decided to recommend against the fees after some board members worried that imposing the fees would have a negative economic impact on localities in the JMRL.

“The one thing … that they haven’t considered is that we are shooting ourselves in the foot by chasing those people out of the area,” board member Peter McIntosh said.
